What is the difference between pointed pen calligraphy, brush lettering and monoline?

Pointed pen calligraphy is scribed with a pen holder, nib, and ink. It is an art that produces beautiful thin hairlines, and thick swells. The ink dries on top of the paper and when dry, you can feel its raised texture. Pointed pen is a style that is often used for formal and semi-formal weddings. Each envelope is scribed by hand and depending on style of calligraphy, can take anywhere from 3-7 minutes per envelope to complete.

Brush lettering is written with a brush pen. It produces moderately thin hairlines and thicker swells. This lettering style is perfect for semi-formal or casual weddings. It is also really beautiful when paired with a modern lettering style.

Monoline is lettered with a pen that produces one line weight like a gel pen, felt tip pen, etc. It does not produce thin and thick lines like you see in calligraphy. It is still very pretty and perfect for someone who wants a more economical lettering style.

When should I book my calligrapher?

It is best to book your calligrapher at least 4-6 months in advance. Many calligraphers book a year in advance.
