Hey y’all! I realize it’s been awhile since I last wrote. There have been some major changes happening here on the MarisaMade site and I want to tell you all about them and the exciting things that are happening in 2017!
The biggest change by far is the updated MarisaMade site! I realized that I was showing you work that I have done, but telling you nothing about the services I offer! Sheesh! (Small business lessons 101). I updated every page to include information about services offered, retailers I work with, and my portfolio. I am most excited to tell you all about new calligraphy services offered!
My calligraphy journey began 3 years ago at a workshop in Ripley, WV. I needed an outlet after becoming a stay-at-home mom because my creative brain was going numb from all of the Disney cartoons. (When you start singing Disney theme songs, it’s time for a hobby!) Late last year I began to receive requests for hand-lettered and calligraphed items. This was such a sweet surprise and it’s really exciting to share something I love and offer calligraphy services to you! I will be doing calligraphy for weddings, other events, and for stationary. See calligraphy samples here, and let the fun snail mail begin!
One of the best things I did for myself and my business last year is join The Rising Tide Society chapter in Charleston, WV. A friend of mine, Lisa Lane of Lisa Lane Designs, recommended joining because it was a supportive group of makers who promote community over competition. It was through this group that I met some AMAZING friends! It was a breath of fresh air to meet other small business owners who are just starting and understand the constant struggle of managing the business while being either a stay-at-home parent or a working professional. (If you’re a maker, I highly recommend joining your local RTS chapter! You won’t regret it, promise…and if you are in Charleston, WV, you can join our group here!)
Fast forward to February 2017, and MarisaMade stationary is now offered in 3 different stores! You can find my cards at Eggplant on Bridge Road in Charleston, WV, The Capitol Market, and Lil Bit of Heaven Cupcakes in Saint Albans, WV. These businesses have been a dream to work with and love to support local artists. If you’re out and about, stop in! Valentine's day cards are also up in my Etsy store!
MarisaMade will also be participating in the first Restore Table Scape Championship February 14-18, 2017. It’s coming up fast! I was asked to design a table scape that used items that had been donated while showcasing my services/products. There are three other local businesses participating! You are invited to come each day to the Restore in Teays Valley to vote for your favorite table (hopefully, you will love mine)! All of the items on the table are available for sale and proceeds will go to Habitat for Humanity! What a great cause! For more information about the table scape championship, check out Restore’s site here!
You can expect lots of illustrated and calligraphy goodness from me!!
Lastly, I want to close with giving you an update on the International FOXG1 Foundation donation from Christmas Card sales. I was able to donate $103 from Christmas Card Sales to the foundation to help find a cure for FOX G1 Syndrome. My mission this year is to continue to give back to the foundation and help raise money for this amazing cause. If you are just joining me today, you can read all about my two-year-old son, Maxwell, and his life as a FoxG1 kiddo. Together, we will find a cure to help all Fox kids and their families.
Ok, that’s all for now! I’m pumped for 2017! Comment below with something you are excited about for 2017 or a goal you are working toward! Let’s support one another!
